STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State softball team will take on a challenging field of competitors in Clearwater, Fla., this weekend, as they open play at the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational on Friday. OSU will take on five different opponents at the competition, including three ranked foes. Live stats for this weekend's tournament can be found on okstate.com, while play-by-play action can be followed on Twitter at @CowgirlSBPXP.
What to Watch For
Oklahoma State will receive numerous tests at the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational, including an opening matchup against 12th-ranked Tennessee. After taking on the Volunteers, OSU will then face No. 3 Auburn, the highest-ranked opponent the Cowgirls have faced since taking on top-ranked Oklahoma in 2013. Oklahoma State will wrap up the competition against No. 19 James Madison, giving the Cowgirls three contests against ranked opponents within three days.
With Oklahoma State taking on No. 12 Tennessee and No. 3 Auburn on Friday, this marks the first time the Cowgirls have faced back-to-back non-conference opponents ranked in the top 15 since taking on No. 13 California and top-ranked Washington in 2010.
After failing to hit a home run until the 15th game of the season in 2015, senior Tiffany Mikkelson blasted a solo shot in the Cowgirls' 4-0 win over DePaul last Saturday. That leaves her only eight home runs short of setting a new career record at Oklahoma State.
