Teeters, Ealey Headline Meets in New Mexico, Arkansas

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State track and field teams had a light day of competition Friday at the Tyson Invitational and Don Kirby Elite, with John Teeters and Chase Ealey leading the way.
At the Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Teeters advanced to Saturday's 60-meter final with the top-time of 6.56 in the preliminary round.
"It's great that he's the leader going into tomorrow's final," sprints coach Diego Flaquer said. "He's been consistent this whole year, so we expect him to keep this up moving forward."
Over in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the third straight week of competition, Ealey threw a personal best 19.36m/63-6.25 in the weight throw, this time smashing her previous record by two feet and finishing fourth at the Tyson Invitational. Despite this being Ealey's first season in the weight throw, she is just a meter shy of breaking the school record in the event, and has the third best throw in the Big 12 this season.
Ealey will compete in her strongest event, the shot put, Saturday, looking to claim the Big 12's top spot. She currently sits in third, less than a foot off the leader. Nationally, Ealey is eighth, but only a meter stands between her and the No. 2 mark in the NCAA this season.
The long jump competition in Albuquerque had two Cowboys finish in the top-five. Jacob Fincham-Dukes tied his collegiate best late Friday night with a 7.36m/24-1.75 jump that got him third place overall. Simon Imagbe finished fifth and set a season's best with his 7.18m/23-6.75 mark while also claiming the seventh-best mark in school history.
Freshman Malik Givens topped his personal best, once again, Friday at the Tyson Invitational with a 6.80 time in the 60-meter preliminary round. Givens won heat two in a photo finish to grab an automatic qualifying spot into the next round of the hotly contested event that featured four sprinters with top-10 times this season.
In the semifinal, Givens faced a challenging field and came up short of a spot in the final with a 6.82.
Danielle Coleman set a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a 56.68, and Stephanie Ferrante set an indoor best in the same event with a 58.04. On the men's side, Brandon Singleton set a personal best in the 400, running a 48.33 in Arkansas.
"I was pleased with how the 400-meter runners performed out there," Flaquer said. "They are continuing to improve and that's all you can ask for as a coach. Brandon and Danielle ran personal bests, so iI'm really proud of how they are progressing."
The OSU squads will be back in action Saturday at the Tyson Invitational, Don Kirby Elite, Husky Classic in Seattle, and Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
