How We Got Here: Equitation Over Fences
February 01, 2016 | Cowgirl Equestrian
STILLWATER - With competition set to resume this week, here is a look at how the Cowgirls have earned their No. 5 ranking, starting with Equitation Over Fences.
The Cowgirls were 2-3-1 in the event during the fall season.
OSU got off to a quick start in fall action with a 13-6 win over SMU. During fences, the Cowgirls tied the event, 2-2, with wins from sophomore Carly Barrick and junior Jorden Davis.
The Cowgirls shined in Equitation over Fences during an away win at Kansas State. Davis, Barrick, junior Maggie Drysch and sophomore Katie Jones all walked away with wins, as the Cowgirls were victorious against the Wildcats, 4-1. Drysch also received Most Outstanding Player honors and a meet-high score of 85.
Drysch, a native of El Dorado Hills, Californi, has competed in all six matches this season.
"Several of the girls have stood out and continued to contribute to our success," Hunt Seat Coach Sammy Elser said. "Each and every one of them have had a standout moment in the fall and that's definitely what makes us strong competitors."
After a 3-2 loss at Georgia and a 4-1 loss at Auburn, the Cowgirls got back on track with a victory against No. 3 Baylor by a score of 3-2. Drysch, Jones and All-American Senior Amy White all emerged victorious in their head-to-head matchups to help the Cowgirls win the meet, 13-7.
The Cowgirls tallied high scores against the Horned Frogs. Barrick and Davis won their head-to-head matchups, 84-76, and 88-83, respectively. Both Barrick and Davis posted season-high scores. The Cowgirls would go on to win the meet, 12-8.
Oklahoma State will look for continued success from its riders in Equitation over Fences as the spring season begins.
"As the second half of the season is starting, I have noticed a sense of confidence within the girls that has continued to grow from last semester," Elser said.
The Cowgirls will host the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at Totusek Arena in Stillwater to kick off spring competition.
