Cowgirl Softball Announces Addition of Two Players
December 05, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER---- Oklahoma State Softball welcomes the addition of Mackenzie Thomas and Mallory Goodman, head coach Kenny Gajewski announced today.
Thomas joins the Cowgirls from McNeese State and will be a freshman this fall. Goodman returns to the program after sitting out last season for family reasons.
A native of Claremore, Oklahoma, Thomas will add depth behind the plate. While at Claremore High School, she was named first-team All-Conference twice as well as being named first team All-Vype, All-Region, All-State and the district Defensive Player of the Year.
"I look for Mackenzie to come in and step in behind Vanessa Shippy and give us some valuable depth that this team needs," Gajewski said. "She's a right-handed hitter. But she's a true catcher and should really help us there in our everyday work."
Goodman, a sophomore from Sand Springs, Oklahoma, couldn't have asked for a better start to her Cowgirl career in 2015. Just five pitches into her first at bat, she blasted a 2-2 pitch over the leftfield fence to give Oklahoma State an early 1-0 lead over then No. 12 Arizona.
She finished the year batting .273 in 36 games, 33 of which she started. Showing power and clutch hitting, Goodman posted three home runs and 22 RBIs on her way to a .414 slugging percentage. In the field, she recorded a .949 fielding percentage in the outfield while picking up three assists.
"We're just really excited to get her back," Gajewski said. "I feel like she brings us some depth. I look at her as giving us some depth in our outfield and some right-handed power that we need. We're thrilled to get her back and get her back on her journey to graduation and playing the game she's always loved."
Oklahoma State opens the 2017 season against McNeese State on Feb. 10 in the Tiger Classic.
