Cowgirls Fight Off Long Beach State To Advance At Play4Kay Shootout

LAS VEGAS – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team improved to 10-0 on the year, outlasting Long Beach State, 63-57, on Tuesday in the semifinal round of the Play4Kay Shootout inside T-Mobile Arena.
LBSU (8-5) jumped out to a 7-2 lead before OSU got six points in a row from Kaylee Jensen. The junior scored eight points in the quarter while helping the Cowgirls build a 17-11 lead.
OSU struggled to get on track offensively in the second quarter, scoring just eight points in the period and managing just one field goal. The 49ers got a 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining in the half to take the lead at 24-23 before a pair of free throws from sophomore LaTashia Jones put the Cowgirls back in front at the intermission.
The 49ers hit two of their 12 3-pointers with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter to take a 38-35 lead before adding its ninth trey of the game to close out the quarter with a 41-40 advantage.
Jensen reeled off five consecutive points to put the Cowgirls back in front with eight minutes left in the contest.
However, LBSU refused to go away. With OSU leading 50-45, the 49ers banked in another 3—pointer as the shot clock expired to pull within a basket before senior Katelyn Loecker answered with a big basket of her own at the other end to push the lead back to four.
With less than a minute left, LBSU hit yet another 3-pointer to get within two at 55-53.
Sophomore Karli Wheeler delivered in the clutch for the Cowgirls, knocking down all six of her free-throw attempts in the final minute to send the Cowgirls into Wednesday night's championship game.
Jensen led all scorers with 22 points and added 11 rebounds, while junior Mandy Coleman added 15 points and eight boards. Wheeler hit nine of her 10 free throws in the contest and finished with 14 points.
The Cowgirls will face the winner of the Oregon State-Quinnipiac contest at 10 p.m. (CST).
