Tur Mari and Babic Bow Out of National Indoor Semifinals

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis tandem of Carla Tur Mari and Vladica Babic came up short in the doubles semifinals at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Saturday afternoon in Flushing, N.Y. Meanwhie, the Cowgirls swept singles for a second-straight day at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge in Dallas, Texas.
Babic and Tur Mari fell, 6-3, 6-3, to UCLA's Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara in the semifinal match to bow out of the tournament. The loss comes after an impressive week for the pair that saw the Cowgirls knock off three top-20 opponents, including two ranked in the top 10, on their way to being one of the final four teams left standing.

Senior Viktoriya Lushkova also tallied a couple of wins at the event, including a top-five win over Miami's Sinead Lohan, to advance to the singles quarterfinals. OSU was one of three schools (North Carolina and Florida being the others) to have players in the quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles main draws.

In Dallas, the rest of the Cowgirl roster posted another strong day of competition, going 6-1 overall Saturday.

The day started in doubles, where the Cowgirls were matched up with SMU. OSU and the Mustangs would split the two matches, with Katarina Adamovic and Aliona Bolsova knocking off Elizaveta Buss and Dasha Sharapova, 6-4. Sofia Blanco and Katarina Stresnakova fell to Ana Perez Lopez and Ellie Zogg, 6-4.

In singles, the Cowgirls went five for five yet again, paired with competitors from SMU and Tulsa.

Adamovic handled Buss, 6-1, 6-3, to pick up her fifth win of the season.

The Cowgirl underclassmen kept their strong fall seasons rolling as well. Blanco beat Tulsa's Marcelina Cichon, 6-1, 6-4, to move to 8-1 overall this fall. Stresnakova defeated Mahitha Dadireddy of Tulsa, 6-1, 6-1, for her ninth win of the fall. Freshman Lena Ruppert held off SMU's Sarai Monarrez, 6-3, 6-3, to improve her collegiate mark to 7-1.
Aliona Bolsova, now 8-2 in her first fall season, knocked off Tulsa's Martha Matoula, 7-6, 6-3.
