Cowgirl Softball Announces 2017 Schedule
November 14, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER---- Oklahoma State Softball released its 2017 schedule that's highlighted with games against LSU, James Madison and Texas A&M, Cowgirl head coach Kenny Gajewski announced today.
The Cowgirls will face 13 top-25 opponents and 27 top-50, according to the final 2016 RPI. The challenging schedule is filled with 13 teams who made the postseason last season.
Throughout the course of the season, Oklahoma State will compete in five tournaments with 13 road games and 23 home contests.
"I'm excited about the schedule," Gajewski said. "One thing we've talked about from day one is we're always going to challenge ourselves against the best competition across the country. This year won't disappoint."
The season kicks off in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the Tiger Classic. The Cowgirls are scheduled to play five games, including the second game of the year against host LSU on Feb. 10.
The next two weeks are filled with trips to Clearwater, Florida, for the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitation, highlighted with a matchup against James Madison, and the Mary Nutter Classic the following weekend that includes a game with California.
The first home game of the year is March 1 against Arkansas before the Cowgirls host the annual Mizuno Classic starting March 3.
Following the eight game home stretch, the longest of the year, Oklahoma State hits the road for the Ole Miss Classic. The tournament starts March 10 against Eastern Kentucky and is highlighted with a game against host Ole Miss the following day.
Big 12 Conference play is set to begin in Stillwater with a three-game series against Texas starting March 24.
The Cowgirls take a break from conference play for a three-game set against Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, starting April 7.
Oklahoma State's first of two conference road sets starts April 14 in Ames, Iowa, against Iowa State.
The Cowgirls conclude the regular season with a three-game series with Bedlam-rival Oklahoma starting May 3, with two of the three games being played in Stillwater.
Postseason play begins with the return of the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City. The tournament is set to resume May 12 after a six-year absence.
NCAA Regional play is set for May 19-21, with the Super Regionals being held on campus sites May 25-28.
"This is what I want to do," Gajewski said. "We're going to play the best schedule around that we can. I wouldn't expect any kind of change. I wouldn't think that our fan base would want anything different, and I think the only way to prepare ourselves to be successful in the postseason is to play good teams all year round.
