October 07, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Oklahoma State women's tennis players Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic came up short in the round of 16 of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships main singles draw Friday afternoon at the Riviera Tennis Club, while senior Viktoriya Lushkova fell in the quarterfinals.
Â
Lushkova advanced into the event's quarterfinals after handling Kentucky's 23rd-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi, 6-2, 6-1, in the round of 16. The Ukrainian senior drew a tough match in the event's quarterfinals, however, and was to face top-ranked Hayley Carter of North Carolina. Lushkova would jump up early in the first set, but from there it was all Carter, who took the match, 7-5, 6-4.
Â
Katarina Adamovic was eliminated in the round of 16 after she was upended by Mayar Sherif Ahmed of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-3.
Â
Coming off an upset of fifth-seeded Jasmine Lee on Thursday, junior Vladica Babic fell short to UCLA's Ena Shibahara in three sets Friday afternoon, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the round of 16.
Â
Despite Friday's losses in singles, the Cowgirls have had a successful overall week at Riviera, being the only team to advance three players into the main draw round of 16 in one of the most competitive fall collegiate tournaments in the country.
Â
The Cowgirl tandem of Adamovic and Babic provided a highlight for the day in the consolation doubles draw, defeating 11th-ranked Caroline Doyle and Melissa Lord of Stanford, 8-4.
