Nine Cowboys Represented in ASICS/FloWrestling Preseason Rankings

STILLWATER – All 10 weight classes of the 2016-17 ASICS/FloWrestling Division I Rankings have been released, and nine Cowboys make the cut with Dean Heil earning the top ranking at 141 pounds.

Coming off his 2016 NCAA Championship, Heil is slotted No. 1 at 141 to open the 2016-17 season. Heil went 32-1 overall as a sophomore with a dual record of 15-1 after being ranked No. 1 at 141 pounds all season. He claimed his second Big 12 title, defeating Seth Gross of South Dakota State in the finals, 5-3.

Anthony Collica earns a No. 4 ranking at 149 pounds entering his senior season. Collica earned All-America status in his third appearance at the NCAA Championships in 2016, finishing fourth at 149, and is a three-time defending Big 12 Champion.

Sophomore Joe Smith checks in at No. 3 at 157 pounds after an All-American season as a freshman that saw him finish seventh. Smith went 34-5 overall in his first season in Stillwater and earned his first Big 12 title as well.

Entering his redshirt sophomore season, 165-pounder Chandler Rogers is slotted at No. 5 in his weight class. Rogers qualified for his first NCAA Tournament appearance last year as the No. 9 seed. He posted a 28-9 overall record with a 4-1 mark in five dual appearances.

Kyle Crutchmer is ranked No. 4 at 174 pounds. A senior, Crutchmer is looking to bounce back from a season-ending injury last year after compiling a 15-4 overall record and 8-2 dual mark up to that point. The Tulsa, Okla., product was a 2015 All-American after going 4-2 at the NCAA Championships as a sophomore to earn fifth.

Senior Nolan Boyd is slotted in fifth at 184 pounds to open his senior season. Boyd put together a strong junior campaign with a record of 33-8 and a dual record of 14-2 on his way to earning All-America honors, finishing fourth at 184.

Defending Big 12 Champion at 197 pounds Preston Weigel looks to make noise as a sophomore, and is ranked No. 6 entering the season. Weigel finished the season 19-12 overall in his first season as a starter for the Cowboys, earning his first career NCAA selection.

Redshirt freshman Kaid Brock earned a No. 7 ranking at 133 pounds after a 19-1 season that was cut short due to injury. Brock raised eyebrows around the country after he pinned returning NCAA champion and No. 2 Cody Brewer of Oklahoma in 42 seconds in his first dual appearance.

Redshirt freshman Nick Piccininni is slotted at No. 14 at 125 pounds after a 16-4 season in an impressive redshirt campaign.
