Cowgirls Prepare For Final Fall Game
October 25, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER ----- Oklahoma State Softball returns to action for the final time this fall when it takes on Butler County on Wednesday.
First pitch from Cowgirl Stadium is set for 6 p.m. with free admission.
The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 6 but was rescheduled due to rain.
The Cowgirls (5-2) come into the game coming off a 2-2 week in which they posted wins against Seminole State and Arkansas and also faced some of the best in softball with the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league.
"We've had a long week here," Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "It's kind of reminiscent of what the regular season is like. Playing a bunch of games. I'm just looking forward to seeing how they come out and perform. We're going against a quality team. They're defending national champions. They've had a great fall and gone out and beat a bunch of Division I teams.
"It's our last game so I expect the energy to be really high. We're just looking to build on what we've done."
Junior Vanessa Shippy has led the way thus far, posting an impressive .609 batting average on 14 hits with nine RBIs and 13 runs scored. The 2016 Big 12 Player of the Year has shown her versatility in the field as she has seen time behind the plate and at shortstop.
Oklahoma State has also seen plenty of production from a pair of newcomers. Junior Rylee Bayless and junior Alex Edinger didn't wait long to show what they can do. Bayless is hitting .591 on the fall with six RBIs while Edinger is batting .483 with seven RBIs.
In the circle, the Cowgirls have used the fall to get all five pitchers looks. As a group, the pitchers have combined for a 2.90 ERA with 44 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a low .216 batting average.
Oklahoma State takes an impressive 130-14-2 record in fall games since 2000 into the game with Butler County. The Cowgirls are also 9-2 under Gajewski.
