Three Cowgirls, Two Doubles Teams Advance to ITA Regional Quarterfinals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up a successful Saturday at the ITA Central Regional Championships, advancing three Cowgirls and two doubles teams into the event quarterfinals.

The Cowgirls went 5-1 in doubles Saturday morning, with the top-seeded tandem of Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari, along with the No. 2 seeds Sofia Blanco and Aliona Bolsova advancing into Sunday's quarterfinals.

OSU won all three of its doubles matches in the round of 32. Babic and Tur Mari handled SIU-Carbondale's Athena Chrysanthou and Meagan Monagnan, 8-1, before Lena Ruppert and Katarina Stresnakova took down Elenore and Verginie Tchakarova of Saint Louis, 8-3. Blanco and Bolsova completed the round of 16 sweep with an 8-0 shutout of Nebraska's Jeannie Lozowski and Kati Matysova.

Babic and Tur Mari would advance again with an 8-6 tally over Iowa's Zoe Douglas and Elise Van Heuvelen, while Blanco and Bolsova would put away Oklahoma's Serena Nash and Simran Sethi, 8-2. Ruppert and Stresnakova came up short, 8-6, to Julie Byrne and Lily Miyazaki of Oklahoma.

In singles, Tur Mari made the most of an all-Cowgirl matchup in the round of 16 to defeat teammate and the event's top seed Vladica Babic, 6-4, 6-2. She is scheduled to face fifth-seeded Shannon Hudson of Arkansas Sunday afternoon for a spot in the regional semifinals.

Bolsova won her match as well to advance into the quarterfinals, knocking off Minnesota's Caroline Ryba, 6-3, 6-3 to move to 5-1 as a Cowgirl. Bolsova will look to advance to the semifinals as well with a bout against Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum of Kansas Sunday.

Stresnakova was the third Cowgirl to advance, dropping Tulsa's Martina Okalova, 6-2, 6-4, in her round of 16 match. Stresnakova is set to take on No. 3 seed Anastasia Rychagova out of Kansas in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Matched up with fourth-seeded Ana Oparenovic of Arkansas, Sofia Blanco came up short in a three-set match, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
