Auburn Postgame Notes
January 30, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- OSU snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up its first road win of the season with a 74-63 victory over Auburn in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Cowboys were 0-4 in true road games coming into tonight's contest. Auburn was 7-2 at home this year, with a victory over Kentucky.
- Jawun Evans once again led OSU with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists - all team highs. It is the freshman's fourth 20-point game.
- Jawun Evans posted five assists, which brought his season total to 108 - second among all freshmen in Oklahoma State history. Only Marcus Smart with 139 dimes in 2012-13 had more than Evans as a freshman. Evans entered tonight's contest with 5.2 assists per game, which leads all freshmen nationwide.
- OSU held the Tigers to 29 percent shooting on the night, which is the second lowest opponent shooting percentage this season.
- The Cowboys evened the all-time series with Auburn at 2-2, and moved to 2-1 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
- The Big 12 won seven of the 10 games in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, which makes the conference 3-0 in the head-to-head matchup against the SEC.
- OSU led 40-31 at the half, and is now 10-2 on the year when leading at the break.
- The Cowboys wrapped up non-conference play with a 9-4 record.
- The Cowboys jumped out to a 10-2 lead after a breakaway Jeff Newberry slam less than two minutes into the game. A Chris Olivier three-point play with 10:06 left in the first half gave the Cowboys a 14-point advantage.
- Auburn answered back with a 16-4 run that made it a two-point game with 2:48 left in the opening frame. That would be as close as the Tigers would come for the remainder of the game.
- This was just the fourth all-time meeting between Auburn and Oklahoma State, and the first since 2006. This was the first meeting between these two programs not played at a neutral site.
- The Cowboys are 124-126 all-time against current SEC teams, including an 9-13 mark in the Travis Ford era.
- The Cowboys started Jawun Evans, Jeff Newberry, Leyton Hammonds, Jeffrey Carroll and Mitchell Solomon for the seventh straight game - the most of any starting lineup combination this season.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 505 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
- The Cowboys have blocked at least one shot in every game this season.
