Cowgirls Blast Four HR's in 18-0 Victory
September 30, 2015 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team recorded its first shutout of the fall on Wednesday, defeating Barton Community College, 18-0, at Cowgirl Stadium.
Box Score
After putting up 19 runs against NOC-Enid last week, the Cowgirl offense was again on fire in Wednesday's contest. In addition to four home runs, the Oklahoma State lineup delivered four extra base-hits, including a double and triple from freshman Taylor Lynch.
The Cowgirls' (3-0) defense and pitching staff were sensational as well, as the squad completed its second-consecutive ten-inning contest without an error. Brandi Needham earned her second win of the fall, and combined with Kacy Freeze and Peyton Walker to toss OSU's first shutout of the season.
"Like I said after last game, the biggest thing to take away from tonight's win is having a zero in the errors column," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "That's what I really want to see out of these games. Our pitchers and our bats were great, but I'm extremely satisfied with our defensive effort."
With a pair of home runs apiece from Darcy Taylor and Red Reasnor, Oklahoma State doubled the team's total from its first two contests. Taylor's first long ball of the night, a three-run shot in the second, concluded a four-run, two-out rally and put the Cowgirls ahead, 6-0, early on. Four innings later, she lined a 2-1 pitch over the centerfield wall, helping her finish a 2-4 effort with 4 RBIs and two runs scored.
Reasnor saved her pair of home runs for the closing frames of the contest, blasting a solo shot in the sixth and a three-run homer in the tenth. Her performance not only gave her the team lead in home runs, but also helped her cap-off a 5 RBI night at the plate.
Other offensive contributors included Vanessa Shippy (2-for-4, 3 RBIs, 3 BB), Danielle Riddle (3-for-4, RBI), and Randee O'Donnell (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, 2 R). In total, the Cowgirls drew 14 walks over the ten-inning scrimmage.
After Needham sealed up the victory in the circle, Kacy Freeze and Peyton Walker came on in relief to clinch the shutout. Freeze delivered her best performance of the fall, keeping the Cougars hitless over four innings of work while tossing six strikeouts. Walker was also effective in her outing, closing out the contest with two scoreless innings and a strikeout of her own.
Oklahoma State will wrap up its four-game fall homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 7, as the Cowgirls host Butler Community College at 5 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium. For more information and updates, follow @CowgirlSB on Twitter.
