Cowgirls Drop League Opener
September 25, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State fell to Baylor in its Big 12 Conference opener Friday night at as the Bears collected a golden goal in the first overtime period for a 1-0 win at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
In the 94th minute, Jackie Crowther delivered a shot to the upper near post for her third goal of the season to give BU its sixth-straight win as the Bears improved to 6-4-1. The loss snapped OSU's three-game win streak as the Cowgirls fell to 5-5-0 on the year.
The match was a physical battle throughout as both teams were whistled for 17 fouls, and each drew yellow cards.
"Ugly, not great soccer to watch, very physical, very competitive," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "I thought our kids competed well, but we didn't play well enough to win the game. Part of that is down to Baylor – they didn't allow us to play well enough to win the game."
OSU was credited with just five shots in the match, with only one of those on goal. The Cowgirls nearly got on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute when Allie Stephenson blasted a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box, but the ball caromed off the crossbar.
The Bears finished with 17 shots in the match, and OSU goalie Michela Ongaro recorded four saves.
OSU returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Cowgirls take on TCU in Fort Worth in a game televised on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
