September 20, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma State ran its winning streak to three games Sunday with a 2-1 victory over UMKC at Durwood Stadium.
Â
Madison Mercado came off the bench and scored her first two goals of the season for the Cowgirls, who improved to 5-4-0 on the season.
Â
"I'm pleased – to come out with two wins this weekend was our goal and we're on a nice run right now so we feel pretty good about ourselves," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael.
Â
OSU took the lead in the 36th minute when Anna Beffer sent a ball ahead to Mercado, who took it in stride and delivered a low shot to the near post from 10-yards out to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.
Â
The Cowgirls added to their lead in the second half, again compliments of Mercado. This time, the senior worked her way through the defense and drilled another low shot that found the back of net for a 2-0 OSU advantage.
Â
With the two goals, Mercado became the second Cowgirl to score multiple goals in game this season, joining Holly Brehmer, who had two scores against Georgia.
Â
UMKC (6-3-0) cut its deficit in half in the 86th minute when Reighan Childers connected from 20-yards out to make it 2-1.
Â
The Cowgirls finished the match with an 18-10 advantage in shots and also recorded a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.
Â
OSU opens Big 12 Conference play this weekend with road matches at Baylor and TCU.
