Cowboy senior thrower breaks 31-year old record by an inch.
KARLSTAD, Sweden – Cowboy senior Nick Miller broke the 31-year-old British hammer throw record Wednesday at the Folksam Grand Prix in Karlstad, Sweden, throwing 77.55m/254-5 on his first attempt to break the record by an inch.
"I couldn't be happier for Nick," coach Dave Smith said. "He has phenomenal talent, he is an incredible technician and, most importantly, his desire for greatness and work ethic are unsurpassed. Today was a special day for Nick and our program."
The throw continued an impressive summer of competition for Miller, who claimed the 2015 UK title in the hammer throw at the Sainsbury British Championships on July 5. Miller's mark Wednesday was enough for the silver medal at the elite international event as he finished behind three-time Olympian Dilshod Nazarov of Tajikistan, who bumped Miller from the gold position on his last attempt of the final.
With record-breaking throw, the 22-year-old from Carlisle, England, now has the 12th best mark in the world this year and will represent Great Britain at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China. The 15th World Championships of Athletics will take place from Aug. 22 to Aug. 30.
Miller is a five-time All-American and five-time Big 12 Champion at Oklahoma State.
