STILLWATER – After two years of serving as the Oklahoma State women's tennis assistant coach, Courtney Steinbock will leave the program to take a head coaching position at the University of Houston.
"I want to thank Chris (Young), Coach Holder and President Burns Hargis for giving me the opportunity to come to Oklahoma State and be a part of this program and this great University," Steinbock said. "Chris has believed in my abilities as a player and a coach for years now, and I'm just happy I was able to help him, this program, the fans and the OSU community have the most historical years in program history. The hardest part will be leaving this team and all of the great supporters I have met over the last two years. I'm very honored to have coached such a special group of talented young ladies and I'm very proud of what they have accomplished since I have been here."
The 2014-15 season for Houston's women's team was one of the program's most successful seasons as the Cougars went 21-6 overall and earned their first NCAA tournament bid since 1998, marking the third time in program history the Cougars made it to the event.
During her time at Oklahoma State, the Cowgirls compiled an astounding 49-15 record, made two-straight NCAA appearances—one of which featured the Cowgirls hosting the first and second rounds—and earned their way to a Sweet 16 appearance for the first time since 1996. Her time at OSU also saw a two-time singles All-American in Viktoriya Lushkova.
Prior to her stint at OSU, Steinbock served as an assistant coach at Mississippi State, Wichita State, Washington State and her alma mater, the University of Kansas.
"I am excited for Courtney to take this next step in her career and thankful for her contributions to our program," Cowgirl head coach Young said. "I know she will do great things for Houston and will be missed here in Stillwater."
