WACO, Texas -- Oklahoma State's Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente finished up the 2015 season on Thursday at the NCAA Individual Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
"I'm proud of the girls for a great season," coach Chris Young said. "They did some great things as a team and achieved the highest ranking in school history so there's a lot to be proud of."
No. 17 Lushkova started the day in the singles tournament, where she fell just short of her second-consecutive All-American status, suffering a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Florida's Josie Kuhlman in the round of 32. Ranked No. 13, Kuhlman took quick leads in both sets that Lushkova was not able to overcome.
Lushkova wraps up her sophomore campaign with a 25-8 overall record with a 13-4 mark in spring competition. She ends the season tied for fifth in most singles wins in a season for a Cowgirl in the Big 12 era. She also compiled the 12th best singles win percentage in the Big 12 era with a .758 finish. As a sophomore, Lushkova also achieved the highest singles ranking in school history at No. 10.
She went on to compete with Kelsey Laurente in the first round of the doubles tournament later in the day. The Cowgirl duo took on 25th-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi of Kentucky. The Cowgirls stayed on pace with the Wildcats to start the first set, but the Kentucky pair pulled ahead to take the set, 6-2. Lushkova and Laurente continued to fight in the second set, but it was not enough as they fell, 6-2, 6-3.
The OSU tandem put together an outstanding season, going 21-10 on the year with two wins over ranked opponents. The two took the ITA Central Region Championship title to move on to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. As the spring season went on, Lushkova and Laurente earned the highest doubles ranking in school history as they reached the No. 3 spot. As a pair, they put themselves in fourth place in program history for single season doubles wins in the Big 12 era.
