Cowgirls Sweep Jayhawks, 4-0

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State's ninth-ranked women's tennis team swept the Kansas Jayhawks, 4-0, in just over 90 minutes in front of 193 fans at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday.
"I was just really happy with the way we came out and executed," coach Chris Young said. "The girls played really well. We got the doubles and three quick wins in singles. A lot of courts were executing really well. It was a good day for us, and we look to continue the momentum on Sunday."
The No. 9 Cowgirls (17-4, 4-2 Big 12) took the doubles point, winning on courts, three and two, respectively.
The Spanish duo of Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez earned a victory on court three, winning, 6-1, against Kansas' McNeely and Czapinski.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic wrapped up the doubles for the Cowgirls, defeating Kansas' Hinton and Collins on court two with a 6-1 victory of their own.
In singles, the Cowgirls completed the sweep of the Jayhawks in a quick fashion, picking up wins on courts six, five and three, respectively--all in straight sets.
After a slow start in the first set, Maria Alvarez emerged with a 6-3, on court six, against Lauren Pickens. Alvarez did not give up a game in the second set, shutting out the Jayhawk, 6-0, and giving the Pokes a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Carla Tur Mari surrendered only one game in the first set of her match, defeating Rachael McNeely, 6-1, on court five. Tur Mari gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead after dominating in her second set, 6-3.
Vladica Babic clinched the match for the Cowgirls on court three with a win over Madison Harrison in two sets. Babic took the first 6-3 and continued to shut down the Jayhawk in the second set, winning 6-2.
OSU will be back in action on Sunday as it takes on the Kansas State Wildcats at the Greenwood Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
