NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Oklahoma State's Shelby Davis became the first player in school history to be selected in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Draft on Wednesday, going to the PA Rebellion as the eighth-overall pick at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tenn.
"First of all, I'm incredibly thankful for the PA Rebellion and the organization's decision to select me in this year's draft," Davis said. "Just the fact that I will have a chance to go on and play after college is amazing. I'm so grateful for everyone who believed in me and helped me get here."
The honor comes during a phenomenal 2015 campaign for Davis. Through 35 games, the senior outfielder has posted top-10 conference marks in numerous offensive categories, including a blazing .442 average at the plate. Davis also leads the nation in stolen bases (39), and needs only 13 more to set a new all-time record at OSU.
Since joining the Cowgirls in 2011, the Goddard, Kan., native has been a mainstay in the OSU lineup. Davis' exceptional speed and plate discipline has led to career on-base percentage of .390, making her one of the conference's most dangerous threats at the plate. Her offensive production has also led to several individual awards, including two All-Big 12 selections (2012, 2014) and a spot on last season's NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team.
Before joining the professional circuit, Davis will close out her final season with the Cowgirls, who began conference play last weekend. Oklahoma State hosts 23rd-ranked Kansas this weekend, with a three-game set scheduled to begin on Thursday at Cowgirl Stadium.
