OSU Track and Field Wraps Up Busy Weekend
March 28, 2015 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Oklahoma State track and field program wrapped up a busy weekend of competition Saturday at two meets in Texas and one in Arkansas.
The Cowboys competed at the Arkansas Spring Invitational Saturday, while the Cowgirls had entries in The Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational and Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Craig Nowak won the seeded running of the 1,500-meter run by finishing the race in 3:47.01 and breaking his personal best by three seconds. Anthoney Armstrong, Luis Martinez and Brigham Hedges joined Nowak in the event finishing 4-5-6, respectively.
In the field events, three-time All-Big 12 thrower Itamar Levi threw a 17.95/58-10.75 to win his second straight shot put competition of the 2015 outdoor season. His throw earned him the second-best mark in the Big 12 this season.
"Levi's win is a great confidence boost for him," throws coach John Baumann said. "It means his training is going in the right direction."
Down in Austin, Texas, at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Chase Ealey took second place in the women's shot put competition. Ealey's first throw of 16.84m broke the school record that she set at last week's Tulsa Duels by a foot and kept her in first place until the fifth round.
"Ealey had another great meet," Baumann said. "She broke another school record and set a new outdoor PR --I think she's got more in her."
Anna Boyert won the women's 800-meter run at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in a personal best 2:09.39. The mark is also the ninth fastest time in the outdoor 800 in school history and the fastest time in the Big 12 this season.
Joining Boyert in the 800 was Abbie Hetherington. She finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:11.02, the second-fastest Big 12 mark this season.
The men's 100-meter dash had two Cowboys finish in the top five as Sharod Selph ran a 10.55 to finish runner-up, and Arlando Brewer-Johnson ran a 10.68, which was good enough for fourth. The two Cowboys' times were both personal bests, and Selph's mark is the fifth fastest in the Big 12 to date.
Big 12 champion Viktoriia Sadokhina jumped well enough in the women's triple jump competition to get her second top-two finish of the season in the event. Sadokhina, who competed in the same event at the Texas Relays Friday and finished 12th, returned to form at the Bobcat Invitational jumping 12.53m and finishing second.
"Overall, I thought it was great weekend for the program," coach Diego Flaquer said.
The OSU track and field program returns to action April 3 at two Bay Area meets -- The Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California, and the San Francisco State Distance Classic in San Francisco.
