STILLWATER, Okla.- The Oklahoma State men's track and field team came in at No. 2 in the updated U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association standings for the 2015 John McDonnell Division 1 Program of the Year Award.
The award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in the cross-country, indoor and outdoor track & field seasons based on the institution's finish at the NCAA Championships.
After finishing ninth at the NCAA Cross-Country Championships and 13th at the Indoor Championships, the Cowboys sit one spot behind top-ranked Oregon.
To be eligible for the award, a team must qualify and place at each NCAA Championship meet during the year. The team with the lowest combined score at the end of the academic year wins. Right now, the Cowboys have 22.5 points, 9 from cross-country and 13.5 from the indoor season.
In the 2013-2014 award race, the Cowboys finished second after a third place Cross Country finish, sixth place Indoor finish and a 13th place finish in the Outdoor Championships.
The Cowboys will look to gain on first place Oregon during the NCAA Outdoor season, which begins March 21.
