Cowgirls Lead After Day One In Hawaii

KANE'OHE, Hawaii - Oklahoma State's women's golf team used a 279 during its first round Tuesday on its way to grabbing a commanding lead at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
The Cowgirls surged in front during the opening round with their 9-under score to build a 12-shot cushion over the field. During the afternoon round, OSU followed with a 1-under 287 to stand at 10-under 566 and 10 shots ahead of Texas A&M at the par-72, 6,099-yard layout.
Through 36 holes, a pair of Cowgirls were 1-2 in the individual race with sophomore Linnea Johansson finishing at 7-under 137 to lead freshman Emma Broze, who finished the day at 139.
OSU got a pair of 67s from Broze and Johansson during its morning round, giving the duo a three-shot lead on the field. Johansson followed with a 2-under 70, while Broze posted a 72 during her second round.
During her first round, Johansson carded her lone bogey of the round at the fourth before responding with birdies at the fifth and eighth to turn at 1-under 35. After tallying birdies on Nos. 10 and 12, she added back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th for a 4-under 32 on her inward nine.
Johansson stood at 1-over par through seven holes during her second round before playing the next eight holes in 4-under. She closed with a bogey at the 18th for her 70.
Starting on the fourth hole, Broze got off to a fast start with birdies on three of her first five holes en route to a 4-under 32 on her front nine. After carding her lone bogey of the round at the 12th, she used birdies at the 14th and 16th to get to her 5-under score.
Freshman Kenzie Neisen joined Johansson and Broze in the top 10, finishing the day in sole possession of ninth place at 1-over 145 after carding rounds of 72 and 73.
Freshman Maddie McCrary posted scores of 73 and 74 to stand in a tie for 13th place at 147.
After opening with a 77, sophomore Isabella Deilert used a 72 during her second round to move into a tie for 18th place at 149.
Competing individually, freshman Alexis Sadeghy posted rounds of 78 and 73 to get in with a 151 total and tied for 24th place.
The Cowgirls will get their final round underway tomorrow at 8 a.m. (HAST) and will be grouped with Texas A&M, Baylor and Middle Tennessee State.
