Last Time Out
Last weekend, Oklahoma State took the field at Cowgirl Stadium for the first time in 2015, as they hosted five games at the Mizuno Classic in Stillwater. The Cowgirls put on a show for the home crowd, winning four out of five games and eventually taking the tournament championship, 11-7, over UMKC. Oklahoma State also recorded two victories over Evansville and an additional win over the Roos, bringing their overall record on the year to 9-12.
Several Cowgirls had outstanding individual efforts at the competition, including Tiffany Mikkelson, who hit .571 (8-14), with two home runs, 11 RBIs and 9 runs scored. She also stole two bases over the span, and posted a total of five extra-base hits over the course of the weekend. When it mattered most, Mikkelson delivered, going 2-3 in the tournament final with a run-scoring double and a two-run home run. With two runs scored thrown in, Mikkelson played a part in four of the Cowgirls' 11 runs, providing the difference in the team's 11-7 victory.
In the circle, Brandi Needham and Jessi Haffner split two victories a piece, with both Cowgirls earning a relief victory and a complete-game win. Haffner made the first start of her career in the round-robin matchup against UMKC, and went the full seven against the Roos. In the championship game, Needham got the nod, allowing only three earned runs en route to the complete-game victory. Needham pushed her record on the season to 5-3, and Haffner maintained her sub-3.00 ERA on the year, coming out of the weekend with a healthy mark of 2.94.
All-Time vs. Wichita State
The Cowgirls have dominated the all-time series against the Shockers, winning 74 of 81 contests dating back to 1978. After Wichita State won the first-ever meeting between the two teams, Oklahoma State reeled off 57-consecutive victories between 1979 and 2000. The two squads last faced off at the UTSA Softball Classic in 2014, where Oklahoma State was victorious by a score of 9-2.
