Cowgirl Tennis Dominates OU, 4-0

NORMAN, Okla. - No. 12 Oklahoma State women's tennis improved to 10-2 on the season, defeating in-state rival and No. 31 Oklahoma, 4-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday in a non-conference meeting.
The Cowgirls (10-2; 0-0 Big 12) now hold a 33-19 series advantage over OU, winning three of the last four meetings. It was also the first win for the Cowgirls in Norman since 2008.
"I am proud of the way we competed today," coachChris Youngsaid. "Each girl had good energy, and we came out from the beginning playing how we needed to. The exciting thing is this team can still improve in several areas, and I think our best tennis is still ahead."
The Cowgirls rolled out to a quick 1-0 lead after doubles, picking up victories on courts two and three, respectively.
On court two,Katarina AdamovicandVladica Babicdelivered a speedy 6-1 performance against the Miyazaki/Brigante pair, whileCarla Tur MariandMaria Alvarezwrapped up doubles play, earning a 6-4 win on court three.
Already on a roll, the Pokes put up singles wins oncourts six, three and four, respectively.
On five of the six courts, the Cowgirls won their first set. Alvarez was first to claim a singles win, with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court six over Christiana Brigante, pushing the Cowgirls ahead, 2-0.
No. 77Katarina Adamovicturned in a straight-set win, taking out Simran Sethi, 6-1, 6-3, on court three to give the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead.
Earning the fourth and final team point on the day was freshman and No. 105-rankedVladica Babic, who produced a 6-1, 7-6 straight-set win at the No. 4 spot over Zita Engbroks.
Play on courts one, two and five was not finished.
OSU returns to action to the Greenwood Tennis Center to host Rice and New Mexico on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
