Oklahoma State Athletics to Participate in Autism Initiative

The department is participating in the "I'm A-OK" initiative. The program includes the "I'm A-OK" autism identifier logo, which can be worn as a sticker on clothing. OSU employees, game-day staff and volunteers are trained to recognize the logo, which will be displayed throughout its venues.
"One in 88 people have autism," said Michelle Wilkerson, co-founder of the Autism Center of Tulsa. "Many are high functioning but might need a little extra consideration."
"Autism is not visible," added Jennifer Sollars-Miller, another co-founder of the organization. "There is no defining characteristic. The "I'm A-OK" symbol will help OSU's staff recognize when a person has autism. It gives them an opportunity to help or simply to be more patient if necessary."
