Dan Bailey Headed To The NFL Pro Bowl
December 23, 2015 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – For the 12th consecutive year, an Oklahoma State Cowboy has been selected to the NFL Pro Bowl, as Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey was chosen to play in the NFL's annual all-star game, it was announced.
This is the first Pro Bowl trip for Bailey, who leads the NFL this year by converting on 96.4 percent of his field goal attempts (28-of-29). A team captain for the Cowboys, Bailey is also a perfect 22-of-22 on point after touchdown attempts. He has had three games this season with three or more field goals made, including two games with four. His 54-yarder with nine seconds remaining in the game lifted Dallas to a 19-16 win at Washington on Dec. 7.
In his career, Bailey has converted on 142-of-156 field goal attempts (91.0 percent), a mark that makes him the most accurate kicker in NFL history with a minimum of 100 field goals made. His 617 career points put him behind only Emmitt Smith and Rafael Septien in Dallas Cowboys franchise history. Last season, he became the second-fastest kicker in NFL history to reach 100 field goals made for his career.
Bailey's selection to this year's NFL Pro Bowl marks the 55th all-time for an Oklahoma State player.
Bailey joined the OSU football program as a walk-on in 2007 and left the school in 2010 as a first-team All-American, the winner of the Lou Groza Award (presented to the nation's top kicker), the Big 12 special teams player of the year and as the school's all-time leading scorer.
In 2010, Bailey set a then-NCAA record for points scored by a kicker in a single season with 149. He converted on 27 of 31 field goal attempts and 68 of 70 extra points.
He kicked a walk-off game winner against Texas A&M and his 370 points were not only the best in OSU history (breaking the 22-year-old record held by Barry Sanders), but it was also the fifth-best total in Big 12 history at the time.
He set an OSU record with 182 straight converted extra points and his 27 field goals as a senior were also a school record. He was the nation's second-leading scorer as a senior with 11.46 points per game.
The 2016 NFL Pro Bowl will be played Jan. 31 in Honolulu's Aloha Stadium. It will be televised by ESPN.
