Next Day Numbers: Cowboys Down LBSU For Second Time

STILLWATER – The Cowboy basketball team took down Long Beach State, 79-73, last night at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Check out the numbers and names behind the victory over the 49ers.
3 – Games missed by Leyton Hammonds due to a bout with pneumonia. The junior couldn't make the trip to Charleston because of the illness, but he returned to the lineup in a big way against Long Beach. Hammonds hit his first four shots in the game and had a career-high 17 points by halftime. He finished with 20 points.
4 – Hammonds is now the fourth different Cowboy with at least 20 points this season. Phil Forte (24 vs UT Martin), Jawun Evans (21 vs Long Beach) and Jeff Newberry (20 vs George Mason) also accomplished that feat.
5 – Days between victories over LBSU. The Cowboys took down the 49ers, 82-77, on Sunday in Charleston, and followed it up with a win in Stillwater on Friday night. This marked the first time since 1996-97 in which OSU took on the same opponent in back-to-back games. That season, the Cowboys took down Texas A&M in College Station, 62-60, on Feb. 15, and then beat the Aggies four days later in Stillwater, 72-55.
20 – Assists OSU dished out in the win over Long Beach – the most by the Cowboys since racking up 21 dimes at Baylor in February. Tyree Griffin and Jawun Evans each had seven assists on the night, which ties Griffin's career high and sets a new high for Evans. OSU's point guards combined for 14 assists and just four turnovers.
57 - It took Anthony Allen 57 seconds to block his first shot of the evening. The senior blocked 13 shots in three games of the Charleston Classic, and entered the game ranked fourth in the country in total blocks. He tallied a pair of blocks tonight to bring his season total to 15. On the year, OSU now has 44 total blocks as a team this year – tops in the nation.

Leyton Hammonds missed the Charleston Classic with pneumonia, and struggled through practices all week. But on Friday night, the junior was the best player on the floor. Hammonds hit his first four shots in the game and had a career-high 17 points by halftime. He finished with 20 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting, including a career-best 4-of-7 from deep. Hammonds is now averaging 10.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season, and is shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point.
