November 11, 2015 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State softball team will play 20 games in 2016 against teams that qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament, highlighting the spring schedule released today by head coach Kenny Gajewski.
Full Schedule
The 56-game slate also features contests against four members of the 2015 Women's College World Series, including Michigan, who advanced to the championship round against Florida. Overall, the Cowgirls will take on 20 different opponents who finished in the top 100 of last year's RPI and nine teams that advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
"I'm really excited about the number of quality opponents we'll have the chance to face this season," Gajewski said. "It's a tough schedule, one that will be a test for our players and will hopefully shape us into a battle-tested squad."
Oklahoma State's 2016 campaign will kick off on Feb. 12, with a trip to San Marcos, Texas, where the Cowgirls will take on a field consisting of Texas State, Northwestern State, DePaul and Abilene Christian.
OSU will then travel to Clearwater, Fla., to compete in the Michele Smith Invitational. The Cowgirls will take on several challenging foes at the competition, including 2015 WCWS participants Auburn and Tennessee.
On Feb. 24, Oklahoma State will begin its final tournament away from home, as the team opens play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. The Cowgirls will again see a pair of 2015 WCWS squads in Michigan and Oregon, in addition to battling San Diego State, Cal-State Fullerton and Washington.
Softball will return to Stillwater on March 4, as Oklahoma State hosts a doubleheader against 2015 Ivy League champion Dartmouth at Cowgirl Stadium. The twin-bill marks the beginning of a ten-game honestand for the Cowgirls, one which will also host the Mizuno Classic.
OSU will kick off Big 12 action on March 30, as the Cowgirls take on Oklahoma at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. After a three-game set in Lubbock, Oklahoma State will host Iowa State in its first conference series of the season, set to take place between April 8 and April 10.
The Cowgirls will then welcome Baylor (April 15-17) before taking road trips to face Texas (April 22-24), UNLV (April 30-May 1) and Kansas (May 6-8). After hosting the team's home finale against in-state rival Oklahoma on May 13, Oklahoma State will conclude the regular season the following day in Norman.
