Cowgirls Close Fall Homestand Against Butler CC
October 06, 2015 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State softball team will cap off a four-game homestand on Wednesday with a ten-inning exhibition against Butler Community College. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., and admission is free.
The Cowgirls (3-0) have been dominant in three scrimmages this fall, outscoring their opponents, 45-2, with 37 runs coming from the last two contests alone. As a team, Oklahoma State is hitting a blazing .409 at the plate, complete with six home runs and 12 extra base-hits. Oklahoma State's defense has been equally as impressive, as the Cowgirls have failed to commit an error since their first exhibition of the fall.
With only two earned runs allowed in 28 innings of play, the Oklahoma State pitching staff has also played a role in the Cowgirls' success. Since allowing a fourth-inning run against NOC-Enid, Brandi Needham, Kacy Freeze and Peyton Walker have combined to throw 19-consecutive scoreless innings.
Butler Community College has hovered at the pinnacle of the junior college circuit since 2010, as the Grizzles have earned NJCAA National Tournament berths in four of the last five seasons. Last year's squad fell in the regional round, but returns a cast of five all-conference players, including first-team selections Megan Wurts, Jenny Hittinger and Kaelah McMullin.
The Cowgirls will follow up Wednesday's battle with a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., on Sunday, as they engage in a doubleheader with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
