Cowgirls Reach ITA Regional Finals

STILLWATER – Three members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team clinched spots in the finals of the ITA Central Regional Championship on Sunday.
"It's been a good weekend of tennis overall," coach Chris Young said. "We have had several girls step up and play well."
A Cowgirl duo clinched a spot in the doubles final to open play inside the Greenwood Tennis Center. Seniors Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente earned a spot in Monday's final by defeating Kelli Hine and Bea Machado Santos of Missouri, 8-5.
"Maria and Kelsey just keep getting better in doubles the more that they play together," Young said.
The win marks the second year the doubles final will feature an OSU tandem, as Laurente and Viktoriya Lushkova won the title last year.
Alvarez/Laurente will face the No. 11-ranked duo of Shannon Hudson and Yuliya Lysa of Arkansas in the final for the doubles championship.
"This is Kelsey's second straight final with two different partners so I'm proud of their performance," Young said. "I hope our fans can come support these girls."
In singles action, junior Katarina Adamovic put continued to build upon her outstanding weekend.
Adamovic's first match of the day came against a familiar face, as she took on teammate Vladica Babic.
The three-set match was tight throughout, with Adamovic coming away with a victory, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
"It was tough for Katarina to play her teammate, but I liked the way they both approached the match and competed well," Young said.
In the semifinal match, Adamovic faced off against an in state foe in Tulsa's Saana Saarteinen.
Adamovic put together one of her best performances of the weekend in a decisive straight set victory, 6-4, 6-2 to secure a spot in Monday's championship.
"Today Katarina stepped up in singles, she competed well and had a great performance in the semifinals," Young said.
The Cowgirls will also be represented in the singles final for the second year in a row, as Lushkova took home last year's championship.
Both finals were close to featuring all Cowgirl players.
In the other doubles semifinal, Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari fell in a heartbreaking loss, 8-6, to Lysa/Hudson of Arkansas.
No. 12 Lushkova advanced to the semifinals with a victory against Julia Schiller of Wichita State, 6-4, 7-6(4).
Lushkova fell to conference rival Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-3.
Monday's championships will begin at 10 a.m inside the Greenwood Tennis Center.
