Cowgirl Tennis Advances to Semifinals

STILLWATER -- The Oklahoma State women's tennis team continued its high level of play in day three of competition at the ITA Central Regional.
The Cowgirls provided fans with lots of excitement inside the Greenwood Tennis Center.
"It was another good day for our girls, we won a majority of the matches in both doubles and singles," coach Chris Young said. "The girls played extremely well and competed well, I'm really proud of the way they've handled themselves over the weekend."
The third day of competition began with two rounds of doubles, with the winners securing a spot in the semifinals on Sunday.
Two of the four semifinal spots belong to Cowgirl duos.
The Cowgirl tandem of Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez continued their streak of great doubles performances on Saturday. In two matches on the Saturday, the seniors only surrendered a total of two points.
 Laurente/Alvarez defeated Jessika Mozia and Caitlyn Merzbacher of Minnesota, 8-1.
The duo earned a second victory against a Golden Gopher pairing in their second match of the day, defeating Julia Courter and Paula Rincon-Otero, 8-1.
The No. 36 pairing of Carla Tur Mari and Viktoriya Lushkova clinched a spot in the semifinals with two victories as well. Tur Mari/Lushkova continued the solid defensive performances for OSU.
In the first match for the Tur Mari/Lushkova defeated Janet Koch and Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas, 8-2.
To clinch the semifinal spot, Tur Mari/Lushkova defeated Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula, 8-1.
No. 35 Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic defeated Vasanti Shinde and Mary Hanna of Nebraska, 8-1. The Cowgirls dropped a close match against Kelli Hine and Bea Machado Santos of Missouri, 8-4.
In singles action, No.12 Lushkova put defeated conference rival Summer Collins of Kansas in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 70 Babic defeated Nina Khmelnitckaia of Kansas in two sets, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the round of 16.
One of the most exciting matches of the day came courtesy of Adamovic in a three-set thriller. After taking the first set, 6-4, Adamovic dropped the second set, 3-6.
The Cowgirl showed the ability to bounce back, putting the match away, 6-3 in the third set in front of home fans.
Laurente fell in an intense three-set battle against Rychagova (KU), 6-3, 3-6, 0-6.
The Regional will continue on Sunday with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles.
