Cowgirl Softball Notches 17-0 Victory Over Seminole State

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team moved to 7-0 in fall exhibition play on Wednesday night, defeating Seminole State, 17-0, at Cowgirl Stadium.

The Cowgirls continued their offensive show in the contest, using an eight-run sixth inning to notch their fifth double-digit scoring output of the season.
"I thought we played another solid ballgame tonight," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "We were sharp on the circle and in the field, and our offense put on a great display. We're getting production from a large number of spots in the lineup, and that's exactly what we like to see."
Oklahoma State's bats came out hot from the start, as the Cowgirls raced out to a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Taylor Lynch got things started with a one-out triple and came around to score on Tiffany Mikkelson's RBI single. Red Reasnor and Darcy Taylor followed with a pair of RBI doubles, giving Oklahoma State a comfortable lead after the opening frame.
Five scoreless innings ensued, but the Cowgirls broke it open in the sixth, scoring eight runs on eight base-hits and four Seminole State errors. Randee O'Donnell and Mikkelson each had extra-base hits in the inning, while Madi Sue Montgomery and Vanessa Shippy each tallied run-scoring singles.
Oklahoma State then went on to score in each of the next three innings, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth and three in the seventh.
In the circle, senior Kacy Freeze tacked on to an impressive fall campaign with another scoreless performance. In five innings of work, Freeze allowed only two Seminole State runners to reach base, while adding four strikeouts in the mix.
Taking over in the sixth, Whitney Whitehorn kept the Seminole State offense grounded over the next three frames, retiring nine of ten batters faced. The final pair of innings came via Brandi Needham, who registered four strikeouts to seal the victory.
Starring offensively for the Cowgirls were Reasnor (3-for-4, R, RBI), Peyton Walker (2-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Mikkelson (2-for-5, 4 R, RBI). In total, 11 of 14 members of the OSU lineup tallied base-hits on the night.
