FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma State softball team grabbed a pair of wins over Arkansas on Sunday, outscoring the Razorbacks, 26-2, in a doubleheader at Bogle Park.
The Cowgirls (6-0) dominated Arkansas with a 16-1 victory to open the day, and finished it with a 10-1 win in the back end of the doubleheader.
"I thought we played well in all phases today, and our pitchers continue to do their jobs," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "It's exciting to see them grow each time out. The other part of our game that continues to improve is our base running. We have really worked hard each day in practice, not cheating reps, and it's paying dividends."
Senior Tiffany Mikkelson had a phenomenal day at the plate, producing 11 RBIs in a 5-for-5 effort. The slugger blasted three home runs in the contest, including a pair of grand slams. Overall, Mikkelson finished a triple short of the cycle, as she also registered a double in the first.
"Tiffany had an unbelievable day at the plate, obviously," Gajewski said. "For someone who is making a position change to the outfield, you would never know it. She just continues to have great practice after great practice, and it shows."
Brandi Needham continued her dominance in the circle, allowing only one earned run in six innings of work. Needham forced the Razorbacks into 11 groundball outs and surrendered only three hits in her fourth victory of the fall.
Also providing offensively were Vanessa Shippy (2-for-4, 4 R, RBI), Taylor Lynch (2-for-6, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Randee O'Donnell (2-for-4, RBI).
In the second half of the twin-bill, Kacy Freeze went the full seven for the Cowgirls' first complete-game performance in the circle this fall. The senior tallied seven strikeouts against the Razorbacks, allowing only five base-hits in the process.
This time around, the offense was led by Maddi Holcomb (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R) and Red Reasnor (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R). Reasnor tacked on her third home run of the fall in the victory, roping a solo shot to right in the top of the sixth.
Oklahoma State will return home for its final two games of the fall exhibition season, beginning with a matchup against Seminole State on Oct. 14. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
