Five Things You Didn't Know About Anthony Allen
October 10, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER - There's more to Oklahoma State center Anthony Allen than just basketball. Check out these five things you probably didn't know about the Jamaica native.
Favorite Jamaican dish:
"My favorite food to eat in Jamaica has got to be ox tail, rice and peas with carrot juice on the side. My mother makes that meal every Sunday. I learned how to cook from my mother when I was young. When mom had to go to work, that's when her older son had to take over. I loved cooking for the family."
The height:
"My height comes from both my father and mother. My dad is 6 feet 6 inches tall and mom is 6 feet even. I'm the tallest in my family, but only by a couple of inches. My little brother is right behind me at about 6 feet 10 inches."
Behind the jersey number:
"My original jersey number was No. 34 because Shaquille O'Neal has been one of my favorite players since I was a kid. That was my first jersey number, but then I changed it to No. 32 because I wanted to be like young Shaq when he was with the Orlando Magic. That's who I try to be like on the court."
Most embarrassing moment:
"My most embarrassing moment on a basketball court actually came last year in practice when Michael Cobbins dunked on me twice just a couple days apart. Cobbo didn't say much, but everybody on the team was boosting it. It was a very hard two days, let's just say that."
Off the court:
"My favorite hobby outside of playing basketball is music. I love listening to music and writing poetry in my free time. You'll find me at any time of the day listening to something. You might wonder what the heck I'm listening to, but it's always something that's sparking my imagination and new ideas."
