MANHATTAN, Kan. - Oklahoma State's Chase Ealey delivered a record-breaking performance for the second weekend in a row Saturday, as she set a new OSU shot put record at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
On her fourth throw of the event, Ealey recorded a toss of 16.71m/54-1.0, tying her for the seventh-best mark in NCAA competition this season. Ealey also earned a first-place finish with Saturday's performance, coming only one week after she threw a previous lifetime best of 16.19m/53-1.5 at the Holiday Inn Invitational.
“One of the things we've been working on with Chase is staying patient with her technique, and she did a great job with that today,” OSU throws coach John Baumann said. “By doing this, she was able to improve on her indoor school record and give us another career performance.”
After taking first at the team's season-opening meet in Manhattan, Ealey earned her second first-place finish of the season with today's effort. Teammate Ieva Zarankaite finished close behind Ealey with a third-place performance, as the sophomore concluded her outing with a mark of 14.29m/46-10.75.
The Cowboys' strong throwing corps also saw success Saturday, as Itamar Levi registered a first-place finish in the shot put (17.57m/57-7.75) and a second-place effort in the weight throw (16.49m/54-1.25). The sophomore from Katzrin, Israel, matched his season-opening performance as well, when he topped the shot put event with a season-high mark of 17.72m/58-1.75.
Also earning first-place honors for the Cowboys were Tyler Jackson in the 600 yard run (1:14.71), Luis Martinez in the 1,000 meter run (2:27.85) and Brigham Hedges in the one mile run (4:19.40).
In addition to Ealey's lifetime performance, the 13th-ranked Cowgirls also provided triumph on the track, as Oklahoma State recorded a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,000 meter run. Aurora Dybedokken led the way with a mark of 2:52.38, while Savannah Camacho (2:52.76) and Abbie Hetherington (2:53.17) finished in second and third, respectively.
Sophomore Anna Boyert nearly broke the five-minute mark en route to a first place-finish in the one mile run (5:00.46), capping off the Cowgirls' trip to Manhattan.
In the team dual scoring column, the Oklahoma State men and women both finished 1-1, as the Cowboys and Cowgirls each recorded wins over Tulsa and suffered defeats at the hands of Kansas State.
Both squads will return to action at the Arkansas Invitational, set to begin on Jan. 30, in Fayetteville, Ark.
