IRVING, Texas - Oklahoma State's John Teeters has been named the male Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week after his career performance at the Holiday Inn Invitational, the league office announced today.
Teeters recorded the NCAA's No. 1 time in the 60 meter dash, a 6.54, at the meet, setting a new school record in the process. The performance came in Teeters' first appearance of the season, and fell only .02 seconds short of landing a spot on the all-time collegiate top 10.
The sophomore from Edmond, Okla., is the third Cowboy to be named the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the week since the inception of the award. He joins Tyreek Hill, who won the award in 2014, and German Fernandez, who received the honor in 2009 after breaking the junior world record in the mile.
The conference award gives Teeters his second accolade of the week, joining his USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honor, which was awarded on Tuesday.
Oklahoma State's track and field program will return to action this weekend at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, set to begin on Saturday in Manhattan, Kan.
