IRVING, Texas - The Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team has been selected to finish fourth in the Big 12 Conference this season, according to the league's preseason poll released Wednesday.
This year's selection is the highest for Oklahoma State in the history of the Big 12 preseason poll, which was introduced prior to the 1999-2000 season.
In-state rival Oklahoma (36 votes) and Baylor (30) led the poll after both squads reached the Women's College World Series in 2014. Texas (27 votes) rounded out the top three, landing one spot ahead of the Cowgirls, who received 19 votes. The final three teams in the poll consisted of Kansas (17 votes), Iowa State (nine votes) and Texas Tech (nine votes). Coaches were not allowed to vote for his or her own team.
OSU returns 11 letterwinners from last season's squad, which finished 26-28 overall and sixth in the Big 12 at 5-13. The Cowgirls will kick off the 2015 season with a three-game series at Arizona, set to begin on Friday, Feb. 6.
