NEW ORLEANS - Oklahoma State's John Teeters has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) National Male Athlete of the Week, it was announced today.
Teeters provided one of the most electrifying performances of the season at the Holiday Inn Invitational last weekend, as the sophomore dominated the 60 meter dash with a NCAA-leading time of 6.54 seconds. Teeters' time won the heat by over half a second, and gave the Edmond, Okla., native a new school record.
“It feels really good to start the year off this way, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could run the 60 as well as to others who just think I'm good for the 100,” Teeters said. “It's awesome to break records and set national standards, but the important thing from this point on is finishing strong in the conference and national meet.”
Teeters' time fell just .02 seconds short of landing a spot on the collegiate all-time top 10.
The Cowboy sprinting sensation becomes the second OSU athlete to win this award, joining teammate Kirubel Erassa, who was named Co-Athlete of the Week in 2014 after winning three individual titles at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Teeters and the Cowboys will return to action on Jan. 24, at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
