STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women's tennis athletes Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente each earned top-50 preseason singles rankings as well as a No. 27 ranking in doubles as a pair, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today.
The two Cowgirls are the highest-ranked singles players in the central region of the ITA, as Lushkova comes in at No. 26 and Laurente boasts a No. 47 ranking. They are also the top doubles team in the region.
In May, Lushkova became the first Cowgirl since 1987 to earn All-American status, when she defeated 14th-ranked Olivia Janowicz of Florida in the round of 32 at the NCAA Championship. The Cowgirl was one of eight freshmen to earn the honor. Lushkova finished her spring campaign with a 19-5 singles record and was named ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
Laurente is a newcomer to the Cowgirl Tennis squad, transferring from the University of Miami. While at Miami, the junior played primarily at the No. 2 singles slot. During her sophomore season, she was ranked as high as No. 33 in the nation and was named to the All-ACC Second Team. She notched three wins over ranked opponents and finished the spring with a 13-9 record.
The Cowgirls kick off the fall season this weekend at the Duke Invitational and the CCLR College Invite.
