September 30, 2014 | Cowgirl Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif - Members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis squad began play at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Tuesday at the Riviera Tennis Center in California.
The Cowgirl tandem of Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic opened doubles play in the qualifying draw with an upset win over the No. 60 duo of Frances Altick and Marie Casares from Vanderbilt. The Cowgirls earned the win in dominating fashion, defeating the Vanderbilt pair in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Adamovic and Babic will take on the No. 32 doubles team of Gabriella De Santis and Sandy Niehaus of Ohio State on Wednesday.
In singles, transfer Kelsey Laurente competed in the pre-qualifying draw. Laurente, ranked No. 47 in the nation, went head-to-head with No. 70 Ashley Dai of North Carolina. The Cowgirl barely dropped the first set as it went to a tiebreaker, but it was Dai who walked away with the win in two sets.
Competition continues for the Cowgirls on Wednesday.
