Future Cowgirls Named All-Americans

STILLWATER — Two future Cowgirls were among the 40 players listed as high school All-Americans in softball by StudentSports.com, a website dedicated to high school athletics across the country.
Vanessa Shippy, an incoming freshman from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was one of 14 infielders honored. A second baseman at Lake City High School, Shippy was earlier named the Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year and a first-team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Shippy batted .622 with 58 runs scored, 40 runs batted in and 31 stolen bases.
Jessi Haffner, a native of Wichita, Kan., who will enter OSU in the fall as a freshman, was one of 12 players honored as a multiple-position player. As a pitcher, she compiled a 13-0 record with a 0.49 earned run average for Bishop Carroll High School. At the plate, she hit .616 and led the team with 20 doubles, 49 runs batted in and a 1.356 slugging percentage.
The criteria for selection to the StudentSports.com All-America team includes: performance on the field, overall contribution to the team's success, sports-specific talent and skills, and off-the-field success.
