STILLWATER -- Tracie Adix-Zins (pronounced ODD-ix ZENS), the pitching coach for the Wisconsin Badgers' softball program the past four seasons, has been hired in the same position at Oklahoma State, head coach Rich Wieligman announced today.
"I'm very excited to be joining the Cowgirl softball program," Adix said. "It's an honor to join a program rich with history and the community of Stillwater. I'm looking forward to hitting the ground running and becoming apart of Oklahoma State family. Go Pokes!"
During her tenure at Wisconsin, the Badgers made historical strides in the circle. In Adix's first season in 2011, a staff composed entirely of underclassmen tied a school record by yielding just 39 doubles. In 2012, sophomore pitcher Cassandra Darrah was named second-team All-Big Ten and was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on two occasions.
In 2013, the pitching staff finished with a 1.96 earned run average, the fourth-best in school history and lowest in 11 seasons. For the first time in school history, Wisconsin recorded three no-hitters in a single season. Darrah threw the first Badger no-hitter in 12 seasons, and Meaghan McIntosh recorded her first no-hitter on March 10, then repeated the feat against Minnesota on April 7, marking the first-ever no-hitter against a Big Ten opponent.
For their efforts, Darrah was named first-team All-Big Ten, while McIntosh earned second-team honors. Darrah was also named the Big Ten Tournament MVP while also garnering NCAA Tournament All-Region honors. She fell one win shy of tying the school record for pitching wins in a career.
Before joining the Badgers, Adix spent three seasons as pitching coach at South Dakota State, making the transition from player to coach. She joined the SDSU coaching staff in 2008 after a standout pitching career at DePaul that included a deep run in the 2007 Women's College World Series.
As a senior for the Blue Demons, Adix compiled a 22-4 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in Big East Conference play. She had wins over seven ranked opponents, and finished the season with a 0.89 ERA, the fifth-best mark in NCAA Division I. She threw 10 shutouts and struck out 168 batters while walking just 28.
In the Carbondale Regional, she threw a complete-game shutout against Missouri in the semifinals. The following weekend, she threw 11 scoreless innings against Oklahoma in the Norman Super Regional. She scattered three while striking out six to earn the victory in both games over the fourth-ranked Sooners, leading DePaul to the WCWS.
Adix was named the Big East Pitcher of the Year and was a second-team All-American according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2007. She was also an NFCA second-team All-Region selection in 2005.
Adix and her husband, Ryan Zins, were married last month.
