Shippy Named Gatorade Idaho Softball Player of the Year

STILLWATER — Vanessa Shippy, an incoming freshman for the Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team, has been named the 2013-14 Gatorade Idaho Softball Player of the Year, it was announced last week by the Gatorade high school sports leadership team in partnership with USA Today High School Sports.
The 5-foot-9 second baseman and catcher batted .622 as a senior with 34 extra-base hits, 31 stolen bases, 58 runs scored and 40 runs batted in, leading Lake City High School to a 20-8 record and the Class 5A state tournament. Winner of the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School Golden Shoe Award, Shippy owns the school single-season records for hits (71), stolen bases (56) and doubles (27) set during her junior year. She was a first-team NFCA High School All-American in 2013, and led her team to the 2011 and '13 Class 5A state titles.
Shippy maintained a 4.16 weight grade point average in the classroom. In addition to donating her time as a peer tutor and youth softball instructor, she has volunteered on behalf of her church's youth group and Real Life Ministries. Also a member of the National Honor Society, Shippy has served as a member of Lake City's student council, the school's student-leadership program, and as the Coeur d'Alene School District's student representative.
