STILLWATER — Vanessa Shippy, an incoming freshman for the Oklahoma State softball program, has been named a first-team high school All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the second-straight season. She was also a first-team selection as a junior in 2013.
The multi-positional player from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was named to the NFCA High School All-America first team at second base. She's also capable of playing defensively either behind the plate or in the outfield. As a senior at Lake City High School, she batted .622 as a senior with 58 runs scored and 40 runs batted in. She was also named the Gatorade Idaho Softball Player of the Year. Shippy was named the NFCA High School Golden Shoe Award winner in 2013 after establishing school records for hits (71), stolen bases (56) and doubles (27).
Shippy is a member of a five-player class who will enter OSU in the fall and compete for the Cowgirls for the first time in the spring of 2015. She is joined by outfielder Mallory Collins (Sand Springs, Okla.), pitcher/first base Jessi Haffner (Wichita, Kan.), outfielder Maddi Holcomb (North Richland Hills, Texas), and shortstop Randee O'Donnell (Tahlequah, Okla.).
