Cowgirls In Fifth At NCAA Central Regional

STiLLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team opened play at the NCAA Central Regional with a 298 on Thursday to stand alone in fifth place at Karsten Creek.
The Cowgirls' 10-over score put them two shots behind Florida and Kent State for third place. The Cowgirls finished the day three strokes behind Alabama and California for first place at the par-72, 6,200-yard layout. The duo came in as the first-day leaders after posting a 295.
Kent State's Wad Phaewchimplee took the individual lead after posting 7-under 65. Phaewchimplee was one of two players to break 70 on the day.
OSU's Jayde Panos and Amy Ruengmateekhun were two of six players to sign for 1-over 73s, tying them for 11th place. Ruengmateekhun started quickly with a birdie at the first and finished the day by moving to 1-over par with birdies at the 13th and 18th. Ruengmateekhun closed her outward nine carding three birdies at Nos. 4, 6 and 9 to finish with a total of six.
Fellow senior Panos joined Ruengmateekhun to lead for OSU after finishing with three total birdies for the day. Panos opened with a bogey on the 10th but quickly turned it around to card seven consecutive pars. She posted a birdie on the 18th to finish even on the inward. Panos finished her outward nine by posting birdies on the first and eighth. Following the birdie at first, Panos posted two pars in a row but found trouble with a double bogey at four followed by a bogey at five. However, she bounced back with a birdie at the eighth and par at the ninth to finish.
Freshman Isabella Deilert and senior Lauren Falley each posted 76s to come in tied for 41st place.
Sophomore Julie Yang posted an 82 to stand in a tie for 102nd place.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round tomorrow at 12:56 p.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Arizona and LSU.
