Softball to Host North Texas

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team hosts North Texas on Wednesday for a mid-week non-conference matchup at Cowgirl Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Cowgirls (21-16, 2-5 Big 12) are coming off a 2-1 weekend and winning their Big 12 series against Iowa State.
OSU is 12-5 all-time against the Mean Green (24-14, 9-5 C-USA). Earlier in the season, UNT defeated the Cowgirls, 4-3, in Denton, Texas.
At the plate, the Cowgirls are hitting .304 as a team. Shelby Davis continues to lead Oklahoma State in a number of offensive categories and currently holds a 12-game hitting streak, the longest for the Cowgirls since Alysia Hamilton's 15-game streak in 2011. Davis leads the team in batting average (.418), at-bats (141), hits (59), triples (one), on-base percentage (.457), total bases (65) and stolen bases (33). Tiffany Mikkelson leads the team in doubles (nine), runs batted in (29) and walks (22). Tarah Ettinger leads the team with five home runs, and Ari Morrison is first on the squad with 27 runs scored. Danielle Riddle tops the team with her .517 slugging percentage.
In the circle, senior Simone Freeman (16-9) has a 1.52 earned run average. She's started 25 games and has made a total of 31 appearances, registering 16 complete games and four shutouts. In 165.2 innings, she's given up 50 runs and struck out 204. Whitney Whitehorn (4-5) sports a 2.49 ERA in 10 starts. In 44 innings, she's allowed 23 runs and struck out 21 batters.
The Cowgirls continue to hold spots in the Big 12 statistical rankings. Davis leads the conference in hits and stolen bases and ranks fifth in batting. Mikkelson ranks sixth in doubles and walks and is ninth in RBIs.
Freeman is second in the conference in strikeouts. She ranks third in opponent batting average (.183), complete games, innings pitched and ERA. Freeman is fourth in appearances, games started, complete games, wins and shutouts. Meanwhile, Meagan Lively is second in saves with two.
Nationally, Freeman is fourth in the country in total strikeouts with 204, while Davis ranks fourth in stolen bases.
