Softball Hosts Iowa State for Three-Game Series

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team returns to Stillwater this weekend for a four-game home stand, beginning with a three-game Big 12 Conference series against Iowa State (17-15, 0-3 Big 12). Friday's game is set for 6 p.m., with first pitch for both Saturday and Sunday slated for noon.
Overall, the Cowgirls (19-15, 0-4) are 56-20 all-time against the Iowa State, dating back to 1979. Last season in Ames, Iowa, the Cyclones swept OSU in a three-game series. The Cowgirls swept ISU in the last series in Stillwater.
In the circle, senior Simone Freeman (14-8) has a 1.52 earned run average. She's started 23 games and has made a total of 28 appearances, registering 15 complete games and four shutouts. In 151.2 innings, she's given up 46 runs and struck out 190. Whitney Whitehorn (4-5) sports a 2.49 ERA in 10 starts. In 44 innings, she's allowed 23 runs and struck out 21 batters.
The Cowgirls continue to hold spots in the Big 12 statistical rankings. Davis leads the conference in hits, ranks second in stolen bases and ninth in batting. Mikkelson ranks fifth in doubles and eighth in RBIs.
Freeman is second in the conference in strikeouts. She ranks third in opponent batting average (.176), complete games and innings pitched. Freeman is fourth in appearances, games started, ERA, complete games and shutouts, and is fifth in wins. Meanwhile, Meagan Lively is second in saves with two.
Nationally, Freeman is fourth in the country in total strikeouts with 172, while Davis ranks eighth in stolen bases.
General admission tickets for all Cowgirl Softball home games are $5 and can be purchased either by phone at (877) 255-4678 or at the OSU Athletic Ticket office on the northeast corner of Gallagher-Iba Arena. As one of several athletic events taking place on Saturday, admission will be free.
