STILLWATER -
Oklahoma State track & field will send three athletes to run the 3,000 meter steeplechase this Saturday, at the Drake Relays, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Anthoney Armstrong, Nick Thorp and Brigham Hedges will represent the Cowboys in the event.
Entering the weekend, Armstrong (9:00.16) ranks No. 34 in the West region in the event and Thorp (9:07.09) holds the No. 51 spot. The top 48 marks advance to the NCAA West Preliminary round, in Fayetteville, Ark.
“First of all, they have to compete,” OSU coach Dave Smith said. “If they do that, focus on the competition and focus on the racing, the fast times will come. If they go in there focusing on needing to get a qualifying time, that makes it much more difficult. Between this meet and the Big 12 meet, if they race well in those competitions, compete and try to win, they will get the times. They're close. It looks like Anthoney [Armstrong] will make it and the others are right there, but they have to go and compete.”
The 3,000 meter steeplechase is scheduled to take place Saturday, at 10:53 a.m.
