The Oklahoma State women's tennis team currently sits in second place for average attendance at home matches through the month of March according to the Attendance Race standings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association last week.
“We are already seeing the difference that a first-class facility provides for our program and the increased fan attendance is a big part of that,” Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. “I am thankful to everyone who has come to a match this year and I hope we can continue to build a strong fan base that can give us a great home court advantage for years to come.”
The Cowgirls drew an average of 230 fans to their four home matches in the month of March to earn their second-place ranking. The team sits behind only Georgia, who finished the month with an average of 360 fans per match. Texas A&M, Florida and Boise State round out the top five with averages of 218, 177 and 176, respectively.
Along with their second-place ranking for average attendance, the Cowgirls also recorded the third-largest total of any women's tennis match this season at the Bedlam match on March 9. A total of 524 fans came out to the Greenwood Tennis Center to watch the Cowgirls knock off the 14th-ranked Sooners in that match. That total also ranks fourth in the combined 2014 men's and women's single match rankings.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 19, when they travel to Norman, Okla., to face the 18th-ranked Sooners.
